메신저 창에서 어떤 이야기가 오간다.

어떤 문장을 누군가 말했는데, 곧바로 다른 사람이 ditto!라고 첨언했다.

ditto란 무슨 뜻일까?

ditto라는 단어는 이탈리아어를 기원으로 한다고 알려져 있다.

이탈리아말은 잘 모르지만, 이탈리아어라고 생각하고 보면 왠지 이탈리아 단어 같다는 생각이 들 것이다. (예: 스쿠데또, 젤라또 등)

이탈리아 사람들이 앞서 언급한 것을 다시 언급하고자 할 때 ditto 혹은 detto 라는 말을 쓰는 것을 기원으로 한다고 한다.

• used to say that whatever you have said about one person or thing is also true of another person or thing
• used in speech to show you agree with what someone has just said or have the same opinion

혹은 명사/ 동사로도 쓰이기도 한다.

앞서 언급한 것을 똑같이 복사한다는 의미를 가진다.

즉, 서두에 누군가 Ditto!라고 한 것은, "나도"(So am I)의 의미였던 것이다.
